in the Calvinist sense is different than Predestination as you've described it here. They believed that it was decided before birth whether one was bound for Heaven or Hell, and that no actions taken during life would affect that outcome.
It's amazingly inconsistent with their puritanical attitudes, isn't it? If I don't know where I'm bound, but I do know that I can't do anything to alter the destination, the 'rules' become meaningless. Why wouldn't I do anything I felt like?
