The joys of dealing with people and money. (Long) by Myke2004-07-12 13:19:57
The Joys of Client Idgits (Southern term meaning by Tully_marrs 2004-07-12 15:15:06

First Off your not billing enough.

I charge $20/hr just to talk to them about a problem much less work on the box. (*Sigh* Yes I DO have a family plan...can you say free? Luckily except for Mom they all live in other cities.)

Yes, your attempting to build the business but when you get a "good" customer or one you want to grow you give them a "discount" off the rate.

In other words you factor in the A**hole charge into your bill rate that everyone buys and strike it off for those clients that dont deserve it. This does two things 1)increase your earnings and 2)creates goodwill by having the client think that their getting something special. The bad part is that they might/will start expecting it.

While the person is in the Professional Services business, and good for networking, it sounds like he already has a rep for being a skinflint. You need to ask yourself, is having to deal with him going to be worth it for the amount of business he might bring you. Only you can answer that, but I know my answer.

Nyet!

Life is too short to deal with A**hole clients.

Regards
John
