This guy just didn't want to pay you. "My budget is tight, but I still need this work done, so please do it for little or no cost. I care neither for what your time and skills are worth nor for the fact that money is tight for you as well. And if you have a problem with that, I'll coax you with the promise that I will again, in the near future, try to pay you peanuts for whatever premium work you can do to my advantage."
If you do want to smooth this guy over, though, Geline's suggestions do sound good. And I also agree that you may want to rework that last sentence a bit. Maybe change the beginning to read, "I appreciate that I've had the opportunity to work with you . . ." but otherwise, leave it as is. ;-) |
