Just booted from the 10.3 install CD and ran disk utility to do a scan/repair. Here's the output:
Repairing disk for "Macintosh HD_1"
Checking HFS Plus volume.
Checking Extents Overflow file.
Checking Catalog file.
Checking multi-linked files.
Checking Catalog hierarchy.
Checking volume bitmap.
(in red) Volume Bit Map needs minor repair
Checking volume information.
Repairing volume.
The volume Macintosh HD_1 was repaired successfully.
And here's the strange bit: "Repair attempted on 2 volumes. 1 HFS volume repaired. 1 volume could not be repaired."
Anyway, this is different from what I was getting before - then, it was two longish numbers (inodes??) and something about them, but I don't remember what.
But perhaps I should explain what gave me this suspicion in the first place: I had a file I couldn't copy - it would fail, every time, at exactly the same point, even copying/tarring/dd'ing at the command line. I've now removed that file since it was in my home dir and I made a complete backup of that, maybe I should just have moved it to another directory on the drive.
Anyway, thanks for reading this far, if you have any hints at all I'll be very grateful.
Ah: Just ran the 'repair' again, this time it didn't find any errors. 'Appears to be OK.' |
