Its not a smart choice, perhaps to not "do good" and get ELSE - but its still a choice. Going thru the motions and doing good - by my understanding of Christianity, is not enough - you have to love God with "all your heart and all your mind and all of your soul" - a tall order to be sure.

Try making someone love you - Christians need to choose to love god.
Knowing that hell exists - or at least believing that hell exists - may provide a good logical argument to do all that the bible commands you - but we are not logical - not all of us - as you know :) For the argument to be perfectly logical, too, you need to believe both without doubt that god exists and the bible is His message...Whatsmore which bible? which God? whos truth? These and many more dilemmas (spelling?) I am sure you can point to and explain better than I.

At the end of the day you need to choose to believe and moment to moment choose the path you take and the choices you make.
