Woah. Spybot & Ad-aware are crashing my computer. by jugulum 2004-07-12 12:30:32
OK, here's the deal. When I try to scan my Windows XP system with either Spybot or Ad-aware, it scans for a while--5 or 10 minutes--and then I get a blue screen with an PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON-PAGED_AREA. The system shuts down and reboots.

The other weird thing is that winlogon.exe is behaving oddly. When I start the above-mentioned scans, winlogon starts using significant CPU cycles--it varies from 5% to 40%. If I'm not scanning, then the only activity I get from winlogon is some spikes when I open up a new program. Oh, and this is the real winlogon.exe from my system32 folder.

I scanned with Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition, and found no viruses.

Anyone got a clue what's happening?
