than we've had communist leanings, so they are tolerated more.

Mussolini and his ilk are usually regarded as Europe's problem more than our own, so that's another reason we tend to ignore external fascism.

It occurs to me that Hitler and Stalin were not as bad as Hitler and Stalin, once upon a time. They started somewhere and got worse over time.
