Ref this post.

The joke was fine (still a groaner, but fine). The part I was picking nits at was the opening line, "da da da daah". The pattern is from the opening notes of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony and the joke was about the Ninth.

The quote from Ode to Joy by Schiller was merely an afterthought because I like the German text with the music and could only remember the first 2 lines (performed it a long time ago) and it was the first time I've seen the whole work with a translation.

I didn't answer last night because I had gone to bed (past 2300 CDT).
