Mac UFies - advice needed by julius.apweiler 2004-07-12 06:39:01
First, does anyone know of a way to do a surface scan on a Mac's hard drive? I have a nagging suspicion that my iBook's hard drive is developing bad sectors. It might just be a file system error, but I'd like to be sure. Doesn't matter if it's destructive (i.e. wipes the drive) - I'm going to repartition anyway. But if there are *any* bad sectors, one way or another, I'm getting a new drive - see below.

Second - mainly to German Mac users: How do Apple's warranties work? If there is a problem with the drive, I need to get the thing back to Apple ASAP, as it's going to be exactly a year old *very* soon, so I'm just barely still covered. Would it matter if I send it in on suspicion of a hardware problem and they find there is none? I suppose I can find out for myself, but Apple's site isn't always too clear. I'll probably have to phone them somehow and ask...
