It's been worth it - the conversation grouping style makes it easy to hold long dialogues much more intuitively than with most POP3 email clients. Seeing all the emails in a conversation at one time is great.

I may also start using it for the mailing lists that I'm on, so that I can archive any good links I find or essays that get sent to me - usually I just delete them to save space in my own mail program, but that's not an issue anymore.

As for surfing and logging in, I leave the inbox open in a tab. It auto-refreshes, so the tab title alerts me when there's a reason to look (changes from "Gmail - Inbox" to "Gmail - Inbox(#)" if there's new mail, where # = number of messages).

So yeah, I think it's pretty great. But if you had no intention of switching anything over to it, I can see why it wouldn't impress you much. It is just email, after all. ;)
