As for the two year thing, I've got much fewer required courses than most people do because I'm not going for a bachelor's degree. MSU has an accelerated pre-veterinary program where you just take the required classes for admission to vet school (where they don't care if you've done your underwater basket weaving or not) so you get into vet school after 2-3 years (and continue taking your underwater basket weaving on the side if you so choose). You then somehow receive credit for courses taken in vet school two ways, so after two years you get your bachelors, then there's two years of clinical and you've got a DVM.
