mod_perl or mod_php? (which is -your- favorite CGI by Pic2004-06-23 07:38:38

I liked PHP for a while - but I agree that some oddities got to me. The fact that key parts of it have changed so much between versions has not improved my view of it.

Perl is nifty - but the problem is that it is all too easy to write unreadable Perl. Beleive me I have seen some BAAAD Perl programs - the kind which make the obfuscated C lot look amateurish.

Python is the new buzzword in the City at the moment (its even beginning to displace Java in some apps), and as well as being memory managed, its properly object oriented. I really think Perl version of OO is overly messy and complicated(having been brought up on C, C++ and Java).

Python also has the interactive environment to test stuff in. A REALLY good idea - load your big module - and test drive all the important functions before placing it on your server.
