But i guess that with 140KW@7000rpm it will be marketed as a "sports car". To me 14,9 L/100km (urban) [19mpg] looks a lot. If I compare to my wifes old VW. In the eighties my dad fell for a "Chevrolet Malibu" that did about 13 L/100km which was "expensive" back then. My brothers turned to diesel cars who do bad if they hit 7 L/100km ...
But again: Mazda makes this look as a "sports car", so fuel consumption and carbodioxide exhaust may not be as important as for an all-round family car.
Reading this article, some old memories came back: indeed, it IS a good concept: less moving parts, less friction, less vibration, smooth operation and all ... in a smaller engine.
But it seems to go unnoticed in "normal" cars, so what's going on? Conservatism? |
