I tried to write a database ap for an undergraduate research project using Vis Studio and ASP once. One of the professors at the university I was attending seemed to think ASP and VS were the greatest thing since sliced bread. After two days of problems similar to yours, and crashing the IIS on my Windows box twice, I completely swore off Microsoft development tools and wrote the thing in Borland Visual C++. I had to dig around in the Oracle header source code quite a bit to figure out how to query the database, but at least the darn thing worked when I finished it. My advice is to leave Visual Studio behind and don't look back, for whatever that's worth.
