I subsisted mostly on rice with sauce, which our uni sold for A$1.60 for a BIG plate heaped with it. Other cheap food: pasta with sauce, if you make the sauce yourself. Meat is expensive compared to other food (I'm guessing that's a worldwide trend), so being a bit veggo won't hurt your budget. For cheap takeaway, the sushi stores are good. That stuff is quite filling. Just don't buy it late at night, cause it's been made early in the morning, and it's not so good after that long.
