I've known someone in this situation before. Basically, I don't believe that you should do something that you don't enjoy because of some obligation that you might feel due to talent and/or knowledge of the art. If you aren't getting anything out of it, then that will likely be evident in the performance anyway.
The alternative of course, as you alluded, is teaching. If you enjoyed communicating knowledge to other people then perhaps you would enjoy teaching a lot more, along with the satisfaction of watching other people improve and enjoy performance. Maybe an excellent new teacher is about to be introduced to the world.
But don't feel bad if that's not the case either. People will probably say "It's such a pity - such a waste of talent" or some such thing. Don't pay attention to these well-intentioned people. Do what *you* want to do. |
