The legal underpinnings of reproductive rights (not just abortion, but on-demand access to birth control, for example) do indeed set a precedent: the state supports the individual's right to privacy and self-determination in relation to reproduction, given no infringement of other's rights.

Cavalier undermining of those underpinnings should be done only in great need.
