unused knowledge by dennismv 2004-05-11 14:45:39
Suppose you had the good knowledge of sheet music, a good ear to music, and some piano-playing experience. Maybe not enough to be an excellent pianist, but perhaps a good one. And suppose if you practiced your skills, there was a possibility of you becoming an excellent one, or at least nearing it.

You can play for yourself, yet usually people play the piano for someone else. Or in concert halls, local places, etc.
However, you find that you don't have the desire to perform. It's not stage fright -- you could perform if you wanted to, something's not there. Maybe you're not getting much out of your performances to keep you performing. So you try here, try there, and eventually you stop performing.

..But you still have this knowledge, and certain nuances of it that many people don't have or don't care to have. i.e. you can sit down and play a new sheet music piece without practicing beforehand and impress those people with your skill.

Do you just let that knowledge go ? Pass it onto someone ? Overcome yourself and keep performing even if it's not very pleasant for you ?
