Because the context of this thread is all about _hard_ science. Not science fantasy.

Dick's work was great and I think I have everything he published somewhere in my boxes. But he clearly doesn't qualify as an "SF" writer based on Illiad's definition.

Star Trek has better science than Dick's books. In fact, of the two examples you gave, only the Androids had the pretense of science. Minority was based, as usual, on paranormal powers that seems to have fascinated him so much.

If you want to say he was a great science fiction writer, I'd definitely agree. But if you want to frame that in the context of Illiad's thread, then I'd have to call him a fantasy author who set everything in the future or alternate realities.

And PETA is not for the eradication of the animals at all. They are for the eradication of the relationship to the animals. Big difference (though not one that makes them much more respectable).
