Language was originally meant for direct, person to person, communication. Any concept of "perfect" grammar should still allow for that usage, which means including speech or "informal" grammar. They still have rules which can be adhered to "perfectly".
Formal and informal and business and other kinds of writing exist. Each has rules. Your reply was perfectly grammatical, given the type of writing. It should not be necessary to compare it to an orange to judge its grammatical excellence.
It's when you get into colloquial usage that the errors start creeping in. Well, perhaps I should say pouring in, as creeping just doesn't convey the volume properly. |
