XBOX Live question... by asayogure 2004-05-11 09:53:37
Anyone here ever use it? I would like to sign up for the free trial, just so I can download the various patches and updates for the games I own (such as KOTOR).

I have had my XBOX since the things came out, but I have never even really thought about the Live service. Online competition with juveniles isn't really my thing. But I have a few games with downloadable content right now, and I would like to go ahead and update them.

So ... I pop a CAT5 off my router, into the XBOX, and fire up the main menu without a game inside. It does some whirring and chugging and a new menu item appears, "XBOX Live." So I select it, and it tells me it needs to update itself (figures), so I say okay, and it thinks for a moment, and accesses the network (I know because the yellow activity light starts blinking rapidly) then it tells me, "XBOX Live is not responding. Please try again later."

So, what gives? I am running a LAN with a cable modem and a Netgear router. I am using CAT5 cable from the router to the 'box. That same cable, when plugged into any other computer in the house, works fine. So I am assuming that the Xbox Live network really is down? Or is my software so out of date, that the update just won't ever work at all -- and I will have to go buy a "starter kit" with the updated CD with the drivers on it? Does the X'Live network go down a lot? Anyone have any experience similar to this? Help?
