Linux Distro Question by blindman2004-05-11 06:50:27
hmm have you checked linuxiso.org by Celticess 2004-05-11 08:43:21
There it lists alot of distros and you can choose by platform. Distrowatch.com will also show you comparisions of what they offer and size they use up. You can get mandrake to install on as little as 64M HD space but you'd not be able to run gui with that little ram.(default gui is kde and they want 128M ram for that and their graphic installer wants 64M ram but can be run in text mode which doesn't remotely need that much) Gentoo can install very small afik because you pick and choose what you stick on it beyond the base system. One of the BSD's tho is known to run on as little as 2M ram and a 386 I think. On BSD or gentoo you could run with 16M ram and actually have blackbox or another light window manager working. I've also heard of people btw using knoppix that they custom altered to run things. I'm not sure if you can get it doing apache but they can use a disk drive for a bit of stuff while keeping rest of activity to whats on the cd.(might be hard on a cd drive after awhile tho) You can also get a few floppy(and other minix distros) from freshmeat.net.
