My son is 12(DOB: jan 21/92) If my daughter lived(cancer) she'd of been 14(March 13/90) Yes they both had their own. My ex gave my daughters computer to his sister when she died. My daughter had it due to vision and learning issues because of the cancer. My son has his own computer. He has fine motor problems(can't handwrite tho can sort of print), learning issues(he's mentally challanged and believed to have a LD), and he's a visual learner. The computer is very good for him to the point that now he's helping the computer teacher for a few things and occasionally helping his classmates. It's a rare area that he's ahead of those the same age. Thier computers were in their rooms. My sons room is across from mine. Sitting here right now on this computer I can look through the door and see his computer chair and depending how I'm leaning part of his screen. He has been well netproofed. We've had long talks about acceptable use. I've set up his system(and he knows how to use linux and his system was set up under that til he needed a few programs that don't run 100% right in linux). He actually asks permission to go to most sites and he knows if he ticks me off I control the cat5 and it gets unplugged.(switch is in my room so his cat5 comes in here). Usually it's not been bad computer activity that got his access yanked it was other stuff and it just happened to be the punishment that worked.(he likes the computer and dislikes having it taken away for misbehaving) hmm... he started using mine when he was 4 yrs old. But I guess I didn't give him his own computer til he was probably 9 or 10. It's since been replaced. It was given to him due to his difficulties and it has helped him. Too bad he can't get a laptop for school or that would also help him because of his hands.
