Waagh. Win2K VPN Help anyone ? by waveydavey 2004-05-11 07:47:43
Need to (damned quickly) sort out a VPN link for a customer. Anyone kind enought to explain how I do this ? Details:

Head office network, 10.10.0.x
ADSL router at 10.0.0.3, static IP a.b.c.d
HO Server 10.10.0.6 running Win2K, single homed. All machines use 10.10.0.3 as standard gateway.

Branch Office network 192.168.0.x
ADSL router at 192.168.0.37, dynamic IP
Client Workstation needs to join HO server over VPN, as it MUST establish a mapped network drive to the server.
Client machine default gateway is 192.168.0.37

HO router running nat, will allow port forwarding to server. Its a Netgear DG814.

No problem addressing HO server at client via hosts file - *really* dont want to get into WINS if at all avoidable.

What I need to know is how do I set up the Win2K server to allow a VPN link (PPTP is fine) to be established from the branch workstation to the server via the firewall gateway router.

What I think I need is advice on *exactly* how to configure RRAS to make the link over the router.

If I need to re-address the HO LAN, and stick the router on one side of the server, thats not too bad.

CAVEATS - Cannot buy a couple of new spiffy Cisco boxes. Dont want to download and learn some new software tool. Cant supply a pair of linux boxen to replace firewalls. Can add a NIC to server if it needs to be multihomed, but I'll need advice on setting the routing up.

Any advice proffered woudl be *massively* welcomed. And if at all possible I will try to reward help financially.

David.
