For my family by purplepineapple 2004-05-11 07:30:48
The family first got a computer when I was very young - around 8 or earlier. It was in the family room, and then in the office (when we moved house [and country]), and I had access to it first under supervision but pretty quickly I could use it unsupervised, so long as no one older wanted it :)

My sister, 5 years older than me, never had her own computer at home. She left for college at 16 and got a computer there, which was of course in her dorm room....

I got my own computer (built by the guys at my mom's work, not connected to the internet and with no extra games on it, only really useful for music and documents) when I was 15ish. It was kept in the spare room, because I didn't have room in my bedroom for a desk with a computer on it.

We got decent access to the internet when I was 15, too, but I could only use it on the computer in the office. I used it a lot. And pretty much completely unsupervised; home alone from 3-6pm...

Now I'm 22, have been out of home since 18 and have 4 computers - two of which include parts from the original I got at 15 :D
