If the BIOS finds it then I'd hope that the drive electronics are still "okay".

You might be able to get some stuff off, using low (I mean *low*) level BIOS calls. Old Norton Disk Doctor (MS-DOSv2.11 vintaqe) let you get at raw sectors, you can also roll your own.

A data recovery company might be easier/faster/surer.
