My pet hate is similar to yours, in addition all sories should a good story. Dont just tell me about the technology, persons, places and make it all fit, TELL A STORY!!! All too often a perfectly good premise is ruined by the lack of a compelling story. The Patterns of Chaos series was the first series of books in a lonk time to fill all of the requirements for me.
