  For me I compare what I'm reading against by blindman 2006-11-19 12:55:59
Asimov, Heinlein, Clarke, Niven and Pournelle. Those authors are definitely capable of "hard SF". The only author that compares favorably in my reading as of late is John Ringo. The Legacy of the Alldenata series has great story lines and seems to make good use of science, both actual and imagined. Check out his writing at the Baen Free Library.
