Some toys my cat enjoys by Lis77 2004-05-11 03:13:36
All cats are different, YMMV

Purchased:
Little fuzzy mice (come in multiple packs when you are too lazy to dig them out from under the couch)
Laser pointer (check ebay but beware of shipping costs)
Plastic disc with a ball on a track that just goes around and around (mine has a scratching pad in the middle, $7USD from Walmart)
Stick with feathers
Fishing line like object which I tie things to the end of
Harness and leash to go outside under controlled circumstances

Free/homemade:
Empty toilet paper rolls cut in half (get batted around like mice)
Free balloons from McDonald's (just be careful if the cat uses claws and pops them make sure she doesn't eat the pieces)
Empty upright tissue box with a few treats inside (mine spends a lot of time to get the treats out, but sometimes I have to hold the box up to his nose so he knows the treats are in there)
Wrestling - I have an old shirt I wrap around my arm so we can fight and allow him to use claws and teeth without hurting me. He loves it and comes running when he sees me pick up the shirt.
Ping pong ball in the bathtub - never tried this (no tub) but people say cats like it
Also I've wrapped sisal rope around my bedpost and the bottom of my coffee table for him to scratch on and he really likes that.

One thing to do is to rotate the toys that are out. Some cats will find toys lying around interesting all the time but others need variety and will get bored of a toy that's always there. It may take some experimenting to see what works best for this cat.

Please tell your friend to be careful if the cat is given string. If a cat ingests string (their tongues are designed to draw things into their mouth and down their throat) it can do nasty things to their insides.
