I read was Stephen Baxter's Manifold trilogy.
Myself, I don't look for anything in particular. I just get a feeling from whatever I'm reading, and then classify it by that. The Manifold trilogy just had the right feel. Star Wars does not-it's definitely space opera. The book I'm reading right now, Charles De Lint's Tapping the Dream Tree, falls into urban fantasy, but the quieter, more lifelike kind, instead of full-blown fantastic battle.
