Grill wars! charcoal vs. gas. by Freakazoid2004-05-11 00:27:06
Definitely charcoal by moddermonster 2004-05-11 01:11:49
-- it's more fun. For you west-atlantic Weber grillers: All you need is some box of cast iron or fireclay and a grid. Light the charcoal with spirit, nothing else. It is consumed fast, next to odourless and makes a very funny explosion noise when lit. Fan with cardboard afterwards. Immersion heaters, hot air blowers, childproof fluids, propane and piezo igniters are for wannabes.

You can even use spirit to relight a grill after refueling (kids, don't try this at home). Put the spirit into a dipper, make sure nobody will nudge you (!), set the dipper on fire and generously pour into the grill. We even had smoldering leaves dropping from the tree when doing this. Not too effective in lighting the colas, but great fun. Gloves recommended.

BTW, if you put non-burning spirit onto the blazes you risk two thing: Explosion and putting out the fire (yes, I tried). Both are undesireable at a barbecue.
