I'm looking at the brochure for the LG 5450...	by kahuana	2004-04-12 16:28:40
and I see under Convenience features: "Fax/Data Services with USB connection support" As I understand them, "Fax/Data Services" are usually referring to a modem of some sort. Modems tend to be serial devices. I would guess that the cell phone is set up to work like an external modem. Their customer service appears to be staffed by donkeys. Complaining that it's a serial port wont get you far... because that's what it is. Your best to stick with the advertised functions that do not work (/don't work as advertised).
