i read 'detention' as	by dissociated	2004-04-12 11:04:05
a member of the enemy armed forces under detention by their own authorities. the japanese forces are armed, even if only for self-defense, so i think the present article doesn't apply in this situation. i seem to remember a section about prisoners of war which ought to apply though.
