Offshoring - need experiences by fsr2004-04-12 05:51:11
Management is, of course, lying thru their teeth. by Naruki 2004-04-12 07:15:33
You are indeed training your replacements. Or those of people you work with, anyway. They won't "save" any money by hiring more people. Only by replacing those people with cheaper people.

That said, you _can_ get very good technical skills from Indian developers. We've got plenty of them working with us. In my experience, though, the biggest "gotcha" is the turnover. We get a few developers/QA in here, train them up, then their company reassigns them to other projects just when they are most useful to us. And then we start over with the next batch.

Ultimately, with the way we do business, I have to wonder if we're actually saving money over the long haul. If you get the contract to state that the same people will be involved for a long time, you may get a nice ROI.

The Indian guys and gals I've worked with have all been very nice people, personable and modest. Some of them have egos, of course, but not nearly as many cocksure folk as the locals. They can also bring in newer technology, or at least ideas about development. Good luck.
