Lord knows we NEED more strict parents, but if you don't learn to let go, the kids are going to be stunted, and it'll negate many of the "advantages" you gain for your kids by sending them to school. Independence and being able to stomach risk are the big seeds of success today, less so that stupid diploma.
My parents would've probably behaved much teh same way, if I hadn't gone to school 45 minutes from my home. They just had me spend every 3rd weekend there *sigh*
When I studied in Mexico, the university down there addressed my grades to my parents. My name wasn't even on the address label. It was just funny because my parents couldn't figure out what it was (grades there are on a 10 point scale). "He who pays the tuition should know the grades" sounds logical to me, but that was just carried to the extreme. |
