Mensa offers a large number of smallish scholarships. Here's the only requirements:
1) The applicant must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States who resides in a participating local group's area.
2) The applicant must be enrolled in a degree program in an accredited institution of higher learning during the academic year following the application date.
3) The applicant must submit an application and essay of not more than 550 words explaining their academic and/or vocational goals.
More info <href='www.merf.us.mensa.org/scholarships/index.php'>here</a>.

Having judged a few essays, I can say that a sure way to lose is by using bad spelling or grammer - get a hard but sympathetic english teacher to proof it if possible!

Good luck oot - don't give up! Good grades in Honors classes at a community college can mean more than decent grades at a major university, especially if you transfer to the major uni later and keep up the grades.
