If you're hypoglycemic you tend to overconsume the carbs, your blood sugar swings even worse...a vicious cycle.
The intelligence doesn't exactly IMPROVE when you're faint, cranky, and irritable because your blood sugar crashed.
To the extent that Atkins helps you regulate your blood sugar and teeter away from the diabetic path, it's useful. I think the reason it DOESN'T work for a lot of people is the discipline it takes. To meet the dietary requirements you basically have to cook everything from scratch (processed foods have lots of refined sugar) and the "atkins-friendly" restaurant meals usually aren't meant for the initial stage.
So basically, if you have enough discipline to exercise, you might have enough discipline for Atkins. But most people don't, as we well know. And as with any diet, a given diet will work for some body types better than others. |
