anything faster than 2400 baud. The bar kept getting raised until it finally reached 56K. I think that's where it stopped, as that's the practical limit of normal telephony voice-grade lines. To get faster than that requires upgrading the line to a technology that will support HST. Basically, if it's running on a voice-grade line then it's not considered HST.

BTW, you'll note that HST only involves itself with data as the entire term makes no sense in relation to voice traffic. When discussing the same circuits wrt voice, the frame of reference is 'capacity', as in, the number of simultaneous voice channels that the circuit will bear. A T1/DS1 line, for example, is either medium fast at 1.54Mbps or has medium capacity at 23 voice channels.
