Just because your perception is "everyone uses UNIX" doesn't mean we have to. And even if we all did, not everyone would be a power user.
AWK was originally written for UNIX, I believe. And your syntax is not in the manual (unless my earlier re-perusal missed something).
Just so I'm clear on this, where exactly does "s/x/y/" work? What program(s) interprets that expression?
But your attempt to force that expression to be a RegEx when you know it obviously wasn't meant that way _is_ trying to pick a fight. Or, rather, trying to hit first such that he can't hit back. I'm just pointing out that your strike missed. ;-) |
