Check your contract again by tzulah 2004-04-05 13:39:45
I've been in your situation. Sometimes allowances can be made if the job you are aiming for is in a different line of work from your current position (and security and IT are certainly different fields). Contracting companies don't like to lose their contractors to clients or competitors, but if you are looking to change your line of work and your employer can't offer you want you want, sometimes they will be willing to let you pursue opportunities with clients.

Check your contract again, and politely ask your employer about it (mention your long-term career goals, and how this is a rare opportunity for you that you don't want to miss out on). It's a bit risky though, since if they say no, you've now announced that you are looking for work elsewhere.
