it would probably increase your chances because you can explain that your goal was *this* and I did *this* above and beyond "normal" (meaning spoiled rotten) teenagers to achieve what I wanted. Proves ambition and determination. It's what landed me most of my jobs (worked full time+ and took a full course load at same time) They didn't even look at grades, they looked at what I did to finish*.
* disclaimer: grades will make a difference when trying to attend graduate studies
