You didn't specify that your assumption was a typical Linux-style RegEx replacement. It's quite possible that he's using his own style that simply shares some features, such as the "s" keyletter and the "/" delimeters. As such, he can easily use literal characters instead of "properly" escaped meta-characters. And he _never_ said he didn't like being nitpicked. That's another false assumption on your part. In fact, in a reply to me he specifically said he welcomed it - when done correctly.
