knows that you test things before running the actual experiment.

A few bags of sand equal to the said idiots weight would have easily allowed you to work out how much of a counter-weight you needed.

You could presume they tested it with some weights but probabaly not this persons weight. In this case the people who set up the thing should be on the darwin award list, as it happens they were smart enough not to test it on themselves.
