It's a long story...

I went up to see my Mum and Grandad this weekend. Spoke to my Grandad Friday night just to let him know I was on my wayand he sounded fine. We worry about him because we lost Nan about 6 months ago and he is still grieving (as you would expect). Well Saturday would have been their 50th wedding anniversary. I got a phone call from my great aunt at about 2pm on Saturday telling me to go round and check on my Grandad. So off I went, taking my SO with me as my aunt had told me to. I got there and he was lying on the floor more drunk than I have ever seen anyone. I mean serious 'can't stand up or talk at all' drunk. Dave (my SO) picked up the bottle of 60 % proof whisky that was empty lying next to him. We think he had drunk the whole thing. I spent 7 hours with my other half trying to sober him up. I must have made 30 odd cups of seriously strong coffee to bring him round. It was possibly the worst he has been since Nan died. He was crying and screaming and saying that he couldn't carry on, talking about suicide and swearing like I have never heard. Blaming the world and himself for letting her die. I don't think I have ever cried so hard. It was horrible. He told me things that I should never have heard. We finally got him sober and went home around 9pm and left him to sleep. Before we left we made an agreement that we would meet him on Sunday for lunch if he felt up to it. Well that wasn't to be.

At about 10am Sunday morning my other half gets a call from his mum. His dad has been rushed to hospital. He was having a heart attack. He says we have to go, so we go. We spent all day in the hospital with his Mum, trying to console her. In the end I had to go out of the hospital. After grandad had described what my Nan went through in her last days in so much detail, I couldn't stand to see the nurses and doctors. I felt like such a coward leaving Dave and his Mum alone but I just couldn't stand it.

*sigh* It was the worst weekend ever. I was actually looking forward to coming to work this morning!

I rang my grandad a few times yesterday and he can't remember anything much about Saturday at all which is good because of some of the stuff he was saying. I am pleased he is okay but it was scary. He seemed fine and was joking about and everything on Sunday which is a good sign. I think he needed the breakdown on Saturday. I think he had been trying to hold it together for too long.

Dave's dad is okay now - they caught it early and stopped it but they think he has Angina so he is still in hospital so they can do tests.

All in all - a totally sh*te weekend!
