but I've got nothing against smaller record companies, it's just the massive ones that are too big to be run well and lose track of all the little guys who need a little extra push in the marketplace to get their music out there.
90% of all signed bands fail on their first album. The cure for that is not to drop them, give smaller advances to new bands, and give smaller royalty rates so that the successful bands can cover the company's losses on the smaller ones (the way the big labels think it is), but rather to nurture them... and to sign fewer bands in the first place. That's why small labels are good.
