Herbal tea usual doesnt have leaves from those plants, so most LDS don't consider herbal teas to be restricted by the Word of Wisdom. I did a brief search and found no official statement from any Church leaders, so if there are no official statements it is open to personal interpretation. I know people drink herbal tea, and people who don't, all in good standing with the Church.
As far as it being because of cafeine, well, the closest thing I have seen to an official is this quote from Spencer W. Kimball. (I found that through Snopes of all places.) |
