It really depends on what you are comparing it to. An alternate example...how is Southern Baptish snake-charming sects unique from ancient Gnosticism or Ukrainian Orthodox Catholicism? Lots of differences, same basis. It's where the original idea was taken that is so different. There are people who worship the Buddha as a god. There are those that take anything to one extreme or another. Lots of people are shocked that I would even consider eating meat, and still consider myself buddhist. Many buddhists refuse to swat mosquitos. Others happily do whatever they want as long as the money goes to the Buddhist temple. KS
