in question, why did you put "(white)" in there? It's not referred to that way in the Declaration. If you are referring (obviously) to well-known information OUTSIDE of said documents, then you'll have to allow that many, even most, of the signers of the Declaration were affiliated in some way with Christianity.
As I've repeatedly stated, my concern is very narrow on this issue. I have seen assertions that Christianity did not figure in the founding of the United States. This is incorrect. The signers of the Declaration did deliberately leave (direct) mention of it out of the document, but did (disputably, as anything is) refer to a Monotheistic belief system (usage of the singular, in both cases you mentioned).
Care to tell me which belief system of that type, in that milieu, could have been referred to other than Judeo-Christian-Islamic? There seems to be an attempt to write religion (specifically Christianity) out of history here, and that's my beef. It did affect things, and it should not be asserted that it did not. Whether it should have is another debate entirely. |
