Math theory: What kind of statement is 1+1=2? by jugulum2004-03-17 08:57:21
  Just a notation. by chrisP2004-03-17 09:04:54
    Logic lecturer did this... by stujlaird 2004-03-17 09:44:48
For our course on "Semantics of Programming Languages".
He said "One and one equals?"

We came up with several different semantics for it;

1+1 = 2 (Decimal maths) (or octal, hex etc...)

1+1 = 10 (Binary)

1 AND 1 = 1 (Logical AND, using 1 for true)

and (my own silly idea)

1+1 = 11 (Base 1 maths; a less sophisticated form of tally chart, and very silly, but technically valid for this exercise)
