The Response I concocted to 'An Argument...' by nelzie 2004-03-17 08:29:52
Everyone,

Thanks for the assistance yesterday, it put some things into perspective regarding how I should approach my response. Below you will find the extreme opposite end of the position that had been presented to me... I am doubtful that the individual who presented the argument to me will be able to validate any of the extremes I present below.

(Begin Response)

You present the far extreme of removing all barriers allowing any and every couple from entering into 'inappropriate marriage' as a reason against allowing gay marriage. So answer me this:

If we are to descriminate against particular groups of marriage, why not increase the descrimination?

Why not ban *ALL* marriages involving mixed-race couples?

Why not ban *ALL* marriages involving people from different countries?

Why not ban *ALL* marriages involving people of different
social/economic and education backgrounds?

Why not ban *ALL* marriages involving people that have low incomes?

Why not ban *ALL* marriages involving people from different religions?

Why not ban *ALL* marriages involving people that follow no religion?

The argument you presented to me is one that makes the point that if I am unable to justify the far extreme of my position, then my position must be invalid. I now present you with the exact same argument.

(/End Response)

Kind of 'snarky' isn't it?
